Why is it important for a health student to know Basic English?

John was impressed about what there was happened that morning. He was working in the hospital when an American patient came into his room for taking an x-ray of his arm. He thought this would be a great opportunity of testing his English and in the same time treat the patient as right as he should. They started talking:

- Good Morning. May I come in? Said the patient.

- Good morning, sir. Please come in.

- Thank you very much. It’s fine to find someone who speaks English around here. There are a lot of hospitals here, but almost nobody speaks english

- I don’t speak English well, yet, Mr… Excuse me, What’s your name?

- You can call me Mr. Jones. And you?

- My name is João. But you can call me John. Nice to meet you.

- Nice to meet you, too.

§1 There to be (Verbo Haver/ Existir)

A junção do pronome demonstrativo “There” com o verbo “to be”, em inglês, caracteriza a formação do verbo haver (com o sentido de existir). Quanto a modificação do tempo, este se dá de acordo com o tempo do verbo “to be”. Observe a tabela abaixo:

NO PRESENTE	There is            Há/Existe (singular) There are        Há/ Existem (plural)
NO PASSADO	There was        Havia/ Existia (singular) There were      Havia/ Existiam (plural)
NO FUTURO	There Will be  Haverá/ Existirá/ Existirão (singular e plural)

·         Presente:

Ex: There is a doctor here. (Forma Afirmativa)

      (Há/ Existe um médico aqui.)

      Is there a doctor here?  (Forma Interrogativa)

      (Há um médico aqui?)

     There is not a doctor here. (Forma Negativa)

      (Não há um médico aqui.)

·         Passado:

Ex: There was a doctor here. (Forma Afirmativa)

      (Havia/ Existia um médico aqui.)

      Was there a doctor here?  (Forma Interrogativa)

      (Havia um médico aqui?)

     There was not a doctor here. (Forma Negativa)

      (Não havia um médico aqui.)

·         Futuro:

Ex: There will be a doctor here. (Forma Afirmativa)

      (Haverá/ Existirá um médico aqui.)

      Will there be a doctor here?  (Forma Interrogativa)

      (Haverá um médico aqui?)

     There will not be a doctor here. (Forma Negativa)

      (Não haverá um médico aqui.)
